The Huichols are an indigenous ethnic group of western central Mexico, living in the Sierra Madre Occidental.  They call themselves “the healers.  For centuries, hidden away from the modern world and protected by the natural barrier the mountains afforded, the Huichols have performed ceremonial rituals they believe heal the Earth and keep nature balanced.

Until recently, the Huichol people had no written language. They use symbols and patterns to pass along their history and myths. These artisans live "The Huichol Way", a way of being that has changed very little over that past few centuries.

The Huichols are struggling to maintain their ancestral ways; they are under tremendous pressures of acculturation. Their culture is a real treasure and their lifestyle is a unique window to the world of pre-Columbian times.

Their knowledge of the transpersonal realm and of how to live in harmony with the forces of nature is a treasure that we can not afford to lose. They are an example of thousands of years of tradition and knowledge which may be lost if efforts are not made now.
